Water Babies

After the snow storm, MC's preschool was closed for a few days, so we had to find ways to entertain ourselves. By the last day that school was closed, we were bored at the house and most of the main roads were passable, so we decided to head over to the indoor pool where MC does her swim lessons. It was GL's first time swimming!

The water at this pool is fairly warm, and GL did good for about 30 minutes before she got cold. After that she and I wrapped up in a towel and sat on the side while MC swam.

GL will start swim lessons with MC in a few weeks so I've ordered her a swim shirt to help keep her a little warmer in the water. She loved splashing her hands in the water and watching MC swim and play around us. However, she did not like being splashed directly in the face!

I am so glad that MC has become such a good little swimmer over the last year. It makes having 2 kids with 1 adult at the pool more manageable for me. We are already looking forward to a fun summer!

Snow Much Fun!

Last week we had our first snowfall of the season. They had been predicting 6+" of snow, but in the end we got about 4" of snow & sleet that fell overnight and through the day on Saturday.

Last year we had one of those standard plastic toboggan style sleds from the hardware store. But we quickly learned that the plastic cracks and breaks pretty easily, so this year our neighbor found these cool slider sleds at Costco for us. It was way better than the plastic ones, and we had tons of fun riding it in our yard and around the neighborhood.

Usually when it snows here, it warms up immediately after the storm, but this time we had a deep freeze and spent Friday night through mid-day Tuesday below freezing (including one night below zero!), so the snow stuck around for several days. Although, after the first 2 days the snow was hard and ice-covered, so it wasn't as fun to play in it.

This was GL's first snow experience!  It was so cold that she didn't actually spend much time out in the snow, but our neighbor captured a family shot of us when we were all out together for the first time.

More snow fun pics:

Piper loves the snow. But we started calling her a Fair Weather Husky - it was so cold that even she didn't want to stay out very long!

MC also had tons of fun sledding and playing with our neighbors.

GL is Five Months Old!

Our sweet little GL is 5 months old! The time is flying right by us, and she gets more fun every day. We all just adore her and are so glad she's a part of our family. She is a mellow, calm baby and not much upsets her unless she's sleepy or if MC gets too rough with her.

January 8, 2017

This month she is consistently rolling side-to-side and back-to-tummy. She has rolled tummy-to-back a couple of times, but mostly it's back-to-tummy and then she gets stuck.

She is reaching out and grabbing toys and putting them in her mouth...along with anything else she can get in her mouth - her hands, our fingers, clothes, etc.

This month she has started being interested in the toys hanging down from her play mat, and she's sitting up in her Bumbo seat for short periods of time (10 mins or so).

She will also take her paci out of her mouth and study it, but usually needs some assistance to get it all the way back in her mouth.

She is a smiley, happy baby and loves to laugh at her silly big sister.

Sleeping
This month she has started taking naps in the rock n play in her room. I just wanted her to start getting comfortable in her room, so that when we make the move to sleeping in her crib, it will be a familiar place. She usually takes her morning & afternoon naps in there. Her morning naps are usually around an hour, and her afternoon naps are longer, 2+ hours or so. She also takes a short catnap in the car on the way to pick up MC from preschool and another short catnap in the evenings.

Her night sleeping is still good overall. She wakes up generally twice a night to nurse. I am able to put her right back down after nursing, and she goes back to sleep. Getting her to sleep for the night has been a challenge lately. We can tell she's tired, but it takes a long time to get her fully to sleep; it's like her little body just won't let her relax all the way into a deep sleep until she's been rocked and soothed for a long time (like an hour).

She is still sleeping swaddled with both arms in.

Feeding
Still EBF on demand. She isn't really showing any interest yet in the foods we eat in front of her.

Clothes
She's in all 3-6 month sizes.
