Life With A {Somewhat} Verbal Toddler, Vol. 3

A recent conversation:

Me: I'm really tired of being bossed by a toddler, MC.

MC: No NO!

Me: I'm so glad we had this talk. Thanks for listening to Mama.

MC: Nooooo!

And here are a few MC-isms that I want to record for posterity:

*I often call her by a shortened version of her full name, and she has started referring to herself as "May-may" which I think is her version of the shortened version.

*When I ask her to find something and she's not sure where it is she says, "Hmmm..." and looks around the room.

*When I ask her "Where's Daddy?" she responds "wuk" (work). When I ask her "Where do we take Kip?" she responds "wak" (walk).

MC's First Haircut

MC's 'do was starting to look scraggly and unkempt, so this week she got her first haircut! She's had that little mullet since she was born, and it's just gotten longer and longer as her hair started really growing last fall. The top and sides are slowly starting to fill in - hopefully they will eventually even out!

Here's what we started with...a little wavy, blonde baby toddler mullet:

I contemplated taking MC to one of those little kiddie salons, but we ended up taking her to the hairstylist that does BD's and my hair. I know her; I trust her; plus she has a toddler herself, so she's perfectly comfortable with little kids.

All day we talked it up about how after nap time she was going to sit in Mama's lap and let Mrs. Kristie cut her hair, and she was very excited about it. However, she took an abbreviated nap and woke up crabby, so I had low expectations of how well it was going to go. But she ate a good snack and then BD met us at the salon, so the combination of those two seemed to perk her up a bit. Kristie asked me what I wanted done, and I requested a "more bob, less mullet" look. She did great for the 10 minutes it took for Kristie to snip around the back and sides.

And here's our girl with a fresh, new haircut:

Still a little scraggy...we'll blame that on the waves...but overall, looking much tamer and less mullet-y! She looks like she has more hair now, after cutting a few inches off the back.

Another milestone for the baby book blog!

Life WIth A {Somewhat} Verbal Toddler, Vol 2

Just when I'm about ready to pack her up and ship her off to wherever you send toddlers that are driving their mamas crazy (seriously. why doesn't that place exist?), the following conversation happens...

BD: MC, would you like a bite of this cracker?

MC: Yes, peees.

BD: *hands her the cracker*

MC: Taah-tooo! (translation: thank you!)

Pictures!

Here are some recent pics of our girl; these are from mid-February through early March 2014. MC is 20 months old in these pics.

Enjoying the queso dip at our favorite Mexican restaurant. She also loves the mariachi singer at this place.

To get to our Kindermusik class we walk on the sidewalk past a house with these bunnies in the flower bed. She's always very interested in them, so one day when the weather was nice we stopped to explore them. I thought they were concrete but when she picked up one of the baby bunnies and tossed it, I discovered they are just plastic that looks like concrete. Durable plastic, thank goodness!

We got her a new little cloth doll for Valentine's Day. This is the best picture I was able to get of her and the doll. She is mostly too busy to sit still for pictures these days.

She loves to empty the contents of my purse/diaper bag any chance she gets.

I toasted some pecans for a dessert but accidentally got them too toasted (I wonder what could have possibly distracted me??!). I was headed to the trash with them, but she intervened and wanted to play with them first. It's always interesting what will hold her attention. I have to stop and remind myself that she's never seen toasted pecans, so they are fascinating to her. Every moment she's learning something.

Her first taste of King Cake! Mardi Gras 2014. Thank you to Whole Foods for a decent pre-made cake.

Those Roots Run Deep

{At the playground, another mom introduces her son to us...}

Her: This is Henry. He's almost 2.5y.

Me: Hi, Henry! This is MC; she's 20m. MC has a cousin named Henry, but he's a big kid - 7 years old.

Her: Oh, does he live here?

Me: No, he lives in Dallas.

Her: Are you from Texas?

Me: No, I grew up in Louisiana.

Her: I knew that your accent is from the Deep South, but I just couldn't place it!

Me: Ha! And we've lived here for over 10 years, so you can just imagine how thick it used to be!
