MC's First Snow Day

We got about 2" of snow overnight earlier this week. It was the first amount of measurable snowfall we've had since MC's birth. She's at a great age to experience snow for the first time - full of excitement and curiosity!

The snow starting falling before she went to bed, so BD took her outside to show her how to catch snowflakes on her arm. She LOVED it and will still show you how to catch snow (jabs her arm straight out with palm facing up) if you ask her.

I had to include these two funny ones of Kip bracing for impact of a toddler petting attempt.

When we first took her out in the snow the next day, she was a little unsure of how to move around in it. She didn't really like it accumulating on the toes of her shoes as she walked and would lean down and brush it off every few steps. She eventually got used to it and had fun running around and playing in it.

We don't have a sled, but a large bouncy ball provided plenty of entertainment.

She investigated the strange white stuff thoroughly - we sniffed the snow; we tasted the snow; we threw the snow; we stomped the snow...every action verb she could think of!

Life With A {Somewhat} Verbal Toddler, Vol 1

LA: MC, what do you want for breakfast?

MC: *makes sign for 'eat'*

LA: Would you like oatmeal?

MC: Nooooo.

LA: Would you like cereal?

MC: Nooooo.

LA: Would you like eggs?

MC: Noooo.

LA: Can you show me what you want?

MC: *points to pantry*

LA: *opens pantry*

MC: *points to cereal*

LA: You want cereal for breakfast?

MC: Yahhhh.

LA: *gets out dry cereal, puts it on tray, peels banana, puts it on tray*

**30 seconds later**

MC: ah-mee? {translation: oatmeal?}

LA: You would rather have oatmeal?

MC: Yahhhhh.

Here are some recent pics of our girl; these are from mid-January 2014. MC is 19 months old in these pics.

Earlier this week we had some beautiful weather - sunny and low-60s, so we took advantage of that unusual January weather and headed to the park. There is a low concrete curb that encircles parts of the playground. She used her balance beam skills from gymnastics to walk it back and forth several times and finally got brave enough to jump off; she was so very proud of herself.

Still taking advantage of the good weather after nap time on that same afternoon. We took Kip for a walk and then played with her truck in the driveway. She usually likes to push the truck more than ride in it, but on this day she hopped in for a few minutes and let me snap some pictures.

I found some cute pictures on my phone that I'd forgotten to upload. I think some of these go back a month or so to mid-December.

Decked out in Carolina blue for a Tar Heels game.

Even though they're having a terrible season, we're still cheering for U...N...C!

Family walk on New Year's Day 2014.

Bundled up to walk over to a neighbor's house one chilly afternoon.

Christmas 2013 Recap

We had a low-key Christmas and New Year's this year. BD had two full weeks off work, and we didn't travel or have any visitors, so it was a nice break for us to just hang out and spend time together.

Family Selfie, Christmas Day 2013

MC had received lots of presents via Santa's helpers, UPS and USPS, so we started a few days before Christmas opening gifts. We didn't want her to be overwhelmed on Christmas Day with too many presents.

We FaceTimed with the gift givers so they could watch her opening the gifts, which was really fun. She's starting to realize that those are actual people on the screen so she can talk and interact with them.

We didn't anticipate the fact that as soon as she tore off the wrapping paper she'd want to play with everything right! this! very! minute! I don't know how familiar you are with toddler toys, but they are usually marked with the vague "some assembly required" on the outside of the box. Word to the wise: that actually means there are 27 parts and pieces, all individually zip-tied or taped (or both!) to the interior of the box, that have to be connected with 138 tiny screws, all before any playing can occur. Rookie mistake.

Santa Claus came on Christmas Eve and delivered a few gifts under the tree and of course filled her stocking. Notice that Santa's elves wised up and removed boxes/assembled toys beforehand.

Kip was very impressed with Santa's efforts.

BD had the good idea to wrap up the gifts after we'd unboxed them because she was so interested in the wrapping paper on her other gifts. This is the scene that greeted her on Christmas morning.

We videoed most of the present opening, but I did get a few still-shots of her digging through her stocking. In her stocking she got several small things: bath toys, books, etc.

The rest of the day we spent playing with her new toys and eating some good food that BD had prepared.

Here are some recent pictures of our girl; these are from December 2013 and early January 2014. MC is 18 months old in these pics.

Bundled up to watch our local Christmas parade. She looks like such a big kid to me when she's wearing jeans and boots!

Somebody's got the cookie face!

Playing outside the library after story time. Love those kissable cheeks in this pic!

She helped make Christmas sugar cookies, so she's enjoying the fruits of her labor.

Keeping herself entertained in the kitchen.

Her first taste of fried crappie! She loved it and ate several pieces, along with some fries and hushpuppies. Must be that Louisiana blood running through her veins.

Me and my sweet girl!

She was dressed up for a friend's birthday party, so I was trying to get a shot of her cute outfit, but she was more interested in the appliances in the kitchen cabinets.
