Five Months Old!

At 5 months old, our little MC is such a joy. In general she is an easy, smiley, happy baby - she is our little ray of sunshine. Everyone who meets her comments on how alert she is; she does not miss much that goes on around her. She is super curious and will crane her neck, arch her back - whatever it takes to see the action. It takes her a little while to warm up to new people, but once she does she "talks" a mile a minute.

This has been a big physical development month for her. She started rolling back-to-tummy this month. The first time she rolled over, I was watching and saw her do it and then she wasn't interested in trying it again. A week later I set her down on her back in the den and walked into the kitchen to pop my lunch in the microwave. When I walked back to check on her, she was on her tummy, propped up on her elbows, and there's been no stopping her since.

She has discovered that she can get her toes in her mouth - a feat which never ceases to impress BD. She also loves to stick her tongue out when she smiles which makes for some great photo ops when we're quick enough to catch it on camera.

This is the first month that she's really noticed the bear while we were taking her pictures. And then of course she was so interested I had a hard time getting her to look at me again. She does recognize and respond to her name now, so I can usually get her attention to the general area of the camera.

She's starting to prop herself on her hands if we put her in a sitting position. Her balance is quickly getting better...

but it usually results in a quick-catch maneuver by whomever is closest to her.

We are looking forward to our first holiday season with her. I think she's at a fun age for the holidays - interested and alert but not mobile, LOL!

Five Month Info:

Stats: (weighed and measured at home)
13.5lbs
24"

Feeding: Still exclusively BF. Although she is really starting to pay attention when she sees us eating. She will watch the fork from plate to mouth. So we may try some cereal soon.

Sleeping: This was not a good month for sleeping, unfortunately. I don't know if it's the famous four month sleep regression or if she's starting to teethe or if it was the cold/cough we all passed around -- or a combination of all of that -- but her night sleeping took a big hit. The last couple of nights in particular have been really atrocious, with her up almost every 2 hours all night long. In general, we try to have her down by 8pm, and she's usually ready to be awake between 6:30-7:30am. We start off the night by putting her down in the PnP in our room but after she wakes up to nurse I usually either put her in the bassinet or in bed with us. She still does okay for naps during the day - especially if I'm willing to hold her, which I usually am. It means I don't get as much done during the day as I'd like, but I also know that she won't be in this stage forever. And I've discovered that if she sleeps better during the day, she will generally sleep better during the night, so it's usually worth it to me to sit and hold her while she naps (and sometimes nap with her!).

Clothes: She is in 3-6 month clothes now and size 2 diapers. The clothes are still pretty big on her, but hopefully that means we'll get through the majority of the winter with what we have now. Thanks to some generous gifts and hand-me-downs from friends and family, I think we are all set for the winter.
