On Saturday BD and I loaded up our faithful companion and hit the road.
We spent 5 days on beautiful, sunny Hilton Head Island, SC. It was our first trip to HHI, and we had so much fun! BD and I both grew up going to the Gulf Coast beaches of Alabama and Florida and until now have been disappointed with the Atlantic Coast beaches. But with HHI we have finally found an Atlantic Coast beach that compares to the Gulf Coast! We loved HHI; it is very dog-friendly so we did not have a problem finding accomodations that welcomed Kip.
We spent many, many hours relaxing on the beach. The weather was absolutely perfect - highs in the low 90s, sunny, and breezy.
Our condo was across the street from the beach, about 150ft from the beach access trail. We stayed in the South Forest Beach area, and it was just what we hoped it would be. The beach-front condos are low-rise and set back from the beach, so it feels very secluded but is still super convenient.
HHI has miles and miles of public walking/bikes trails, so we had fun exploring the island with Kip at our side. There were shops and restarants within easy walking distance to our condo.
During the summer dogs are allowed on the beach before 10am and after 5pm. Kip is not too sure about the ocean but loved meeting people and dogs out for their evening walks. At first I was disappointed that he didn't want to go bounding merrily out into the water like the other dogs we saw, but then it dawned on me...no wet dog = no wet dog smell!

We relaxed on the beach, read books, watched movies, hung out with our dog...a fabulous time was had by all.
