Sunday Stitches: Projects Finished
I finished this one a while ago, and I'm hesitant to frame it because I'm considering reworking it. I also could not get a decent picture of it - in case you can't read it, it has our names and wedding date and says "From this day forward, May your hearts be as one." This project was my first time using over-dyed threads. I like the effects of the over-dyed thread - it kind of blends from darker to lighter in the same skein, but I don't like the overall color scheme I used here. I ordered the thread online, and I was trying to order a blue color, but instead it's really more of a teal. The teal and orange lettering give it kind of a 1970's feel...which is not exactly what I was going for!
The second one I just finished recently. It is back to my favorite theme - dogs!

Fall Break
There are some bare patches in the yard where the grass wasn't growing well, so we decided to tackle those first. BD tilled up and degrassed the areas, and I spread grass seed.
Then we covered the seed with a fresh layer of top soil for nutrients and a layer of wheat straw to keep the birds from eating the seed. Hopefully in a few weeks we'll have some new, healthy grass in those spots.
Here is a shot of the flower bed we built back in May - everything is doing really well. The rose bushes have grown about a foot and are always covered in blooms. I am guessing they will probably start to drop their leaves as soon as we have the first frost.
I used some of the leftover wheat straw to stage the decorations on the front porch. I would like to have a scarecrow to stand up in the corner to the right of the door, but I can't find one I like. (And it's too much work to make one!)
Those are artificial pumpkins that BD and I painted a couple of years ago. The little signs say "EEK a spider" and "BOO to you".
This one is a skeleton with a (foam) bat on top.
This one is a smiley-brace-face with a (pipe-cleaner) spider on top. You can tell I like happy not scary decorations!

If Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend...
I have always been a high heels girl. I don't think they are uncomfortable, and I like the fact that they make my (short) legs look longer. That was great when I worked in banking - I had to be dressed up every day, so heels fit right into that lifestyle. But my current workplace is strictly casual, not to mention that I go to school two days a week -- a business suit and heels don't really work well in either environment. I have slowly been making the transition to flats and low-heeled shoes. Today it was time to add some fall shoes to my line-up.
(Candie's Varzity black and brown argyle print, 1-inch heel - Kohl's, about $30)
(Madden Girl Velour black, 1-inch heel - DSW, about $35)
(New Balance 422's orange - DSW, about $50)
I should also mention, in case you can't already tell, that I love shoes. Also, I am one of those obnoxious people who takes good care of my shoes, so they always look brand new. The downside to this is that I hardly ever need to throw a pair away. The old ones get "retired" to the back of my closet or the storage room, and they sit there and collect dust. About six months ago, I went through and donated a bunch - mainly dressy shoes that I no longer need. Today I decided it was time for another purge.
Remember how I said I take good care of shoes? There are three pairs in this picture that I've had since high school.
